Overview

The City of Wagga Wagga is seeking a diligent and safety-oriented Plant Operator to join the Resource Recovery team at the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre (GWMC). This full-time permanent role involves hands-on operation and maintenance of waste management equipment, directly supporting a cleaner and more sustainable community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain Council plant and machinery, focusing on loaders, water trucks, hooklift trucks, and landfill compactors.
  • Carry out various waste management duties including handling municipal, construction, demolition, commercial, industrial, and contaminated waste safely and efficiently.
  • Manage site functions such as fencing, litter control, traffic management, earthworks, waste cell construction and maintenance, and implement environmental control measures (soil, leachate, stormwater, sediment, pollution).
  • Participate in site rehabilitation and uphold site safety standards.
  • Maintain small equipment and tools along with personal protective equipment according to Council protocols.
  • Engage in regular team meetings and complete all relevant documentation including incident reports and payroll records.
  • Perform additional duties aligned with skills and training to support the GWMC team.

Essential Requirements

  • Possess a valid Class HR Driver’s Licence.
  • Hold a General Construction Induction Training Card.
  • National Certificates of Competency for Forklift (LF) are desirable.
  • Demonstrate extensive relevant experience as per the position description.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork and the ability to work independently.
  • Comply with Work Health and Safety laws by providing evidence of vaccination for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus.

Employment Details

  • Position is full-time, 38 hours per week, permanent.
  • Salary starts at $2,686.30 gross per fortnight with potential progression to $3,223.56 gross per fortnight plus 12% superannuation.
  • A six-week rotating roster applies, involving one weekend of work every six weeks with penalty rates for weekend hours.
  • Employees receive five weeks of annual leave annually.
  • Opportunities for ongoing training and development are provided.
