Role overview
We are seeking a dependable and highly detail-focused Payroll Officer to support payroll operations within the finance function. This position is centered on making sure staff are paid correctly and on time, payroll records are kept current, and payroll activities stay aligned with internal policy and financial controls. You will work closely with HR, Finance, and other stakeholders to provide smooth payroll support while treating sensitive information with complete confidentiality.
The role is suited to candidates at entry-level or mid-level who are motivated by accurate payroll administration and strong service delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Run payroll processes accurately and within the required timetable for employees across the organization.
- Keep payroll files updated, including compensation details, deductions, and benefits information.
- Check timesheets, attendance data, overtime, leave balances, and any payroll adjustments before processing.
- Produce payroll reports, reconciliation documents, and related financial support records.
- Handle salary updates, bonuses, commissions, reimbursements, and other payroll transactions.
- Work with HR and Finance to ensure payroll data remains correct and current.
- Answer employee and manager questions related to payroll and provide prompt assistance.
- Make sure payroll practices comply with company rules, internal controls, and relevant laws and regulations.
- Support month-end reporting, payroll reconciliations, and audit preparation activities.
- Protect the confidentiality of payroll records and other sensitive employee information.
- Look for ways to streamline payroll workflows, improve automation, and increase efficiency.
- Keep up to date with payroll best practices, legal changes, and compliance expectations.
Requirements
- Solid understanding of payroll administration, payroll runs, and financial recordkeeping.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and payroll systems or HRIS platforms.
- Knowledge of payroll calculations, deductions, benefits administration, and reconciliation processes.
- Awareness of accounting basics, financial reporting, and internal control practices.
- Strong numerical ability, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Sharp attention to detail and a consistently high level of accuracy.
- Well-developed organization and time management skills, including the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a service-oriented mindset.
- High standards of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when dealing with confidential data.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-moving environment.
