Role Overview
As Payroll Manager for Via Germany, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire payroll lifecycle for over 900 hourly employees regionally. Collaborating closely with Finance, People, and Operations teams, you will ensure payroll processes operate efficiently, compliantly, and reliably to deliver timely payments each month.
Responsibilities
- Manage and execute the monthly payroll operations for Via Germany, coordinating with external payroll providers and internal departments to guarantee accuracy and punctuality.
- Stay informed on changes in German tax laws, wage regulations, and compliance standards to keep payroll processes fully aligned with current legal requirements.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll information to verify data integrity and implement improvements and internal controls proactively.
- Handle benefit deductions and tax withholdings precisely and confidentially, ensuring meticulous calculation and reporting.
- Lead payroll-related financial activities, including preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts in the general ledger.
- Provide expert assistance on complex payroll inquiries escalated beyond the Support Operations team.
- Participate in cross-departmental projects aimed at refining payroll performance and supporting overall Finance team objectives.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing payroll in Germany, specifically with hourly or shift-based workers, with thorough knowledge of local tax and regulation landscapes.
- Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems like P&I Loga, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Meticulous and accountable; capable of working independently to meet challenging deadlines.
- Effective communication skills with a track record of collaborative work across Finance, HR, and other internal stakeholders.
- Process-oriented and proactive in identifying opportunities to streamline and enhance payroll operations.
- Fluent English communication required; German language skills are an advantage.
