Role Summary
Pacific Health Group is looking for an energetic and community-oriented Lead Patient Engagement Coordinator to support the Behavioral Health Department. This pivotal position blends administrative expertise with community outreach to ensure accessible mental health and substance use services with minimal barriers.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage credentialing and re-credentialing for behavioral health professionals including LCSWs, LMFTs, PsyDs, Psychiatrists, PMHNPs using primary source verification and regulatory profiles.
- Serve as liaison for enrolling providers with commercial insurers, Managed Care Organizations, and Medicaid/Medicare to avoid billing delays for therapy and psychiatric services.
- Conduct routine attestations via payer portals like CAQH, Availity, NPPES, ensuring accurate provider listings and compliance.
- Maintain provider panel rosters indicating availability, accepted insurances, and specialization age groups to facilitate accurate patient routing.
- Lead and mentor Patient Engagement Coordinators, troubleshoot scheduling challenges, and ensure smooth intake and front-desk operations daily.
- Train newly hired administrative staff on behavioral health EHR systems, HIPAA compliance, intake procedures, and conflict de-escalation techniques.
- Assess and improve patient intake and appointment scheduling workflows aimed at reducing wait times and improving attendance rates.
- Handle complex inbound and outbound calls with trauma-informed care, perform mental health screenings, and appropriately triage emergent cases per established protocols.
- Conduct pre-admission data verification including referral details, clinical histories, insurance eligibility, and behavioral health benefit validations like prior authorizations.
- Address patient concerns empathetically, navigate barriers to care, and apply de-escalation strategies where needed.
- Develop and execute targeted strategies for community outreach including mental health events, anti-stigma campaigns, and wellness fairs.
- Build partnerships with community organizations such as crisis centers, schools, social services, and hospitals to establish effective referral networks.
- Monitor and track outcomes from outreach efforts, intake conversion rates, and overall departmental growth metrics.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum education required is high school diploma or GED; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
- Fluent verbal and written English; bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly favored.
- At least four years’ experience in administrative or coordination roles within behavioral or mental health or human service settings.
- One to two years’ specialized experience with behavioral health credentialing, payer portal attestations, or health plan panel management.
- Proven leadership or mentoring experience in similar roles.
- Strong understanding of behavioral health intake procedures, CPT codes, and payer requirements.
- Proficiency with credentialing platforms such as CAQH ProView, NPPES, PECOS and commercial/Medicaid payer enrollment systems.
- Thorough knowledge of HIPAA privacy regulations and compliance standards.
- Advanced skills with behavioral health-specific EHR software, practice management tools, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
- Excellent communication, listening, dynamic presentation ability, and crisis de-escalation skills.
