Role Overview
The National Account Manager will focus on revenue growth by building strategic relationships with major consumer packaged goods brands and large retail organizations. The role centers on growing in-store display programs, spotting new opportunities, shaping merchandising solutions aligned to brand goals, and launching high-impact retail activations.
This position acts as the main contact for CPG and retail partners across the account base, turning brand priorities into display programs that improve product visibility, support sell-through, and contribute to stronger category performance. The role suits someone who understands brand marketing, shopper behavior, and retail environments, and who also brings a strong business development mindset.
Success depends on combining strategic thinking with direct execution: developing senior-level relationships, identifying growth opportunities, and managing programs from early concept through rollout.
This is a travel-heavy position requiring 50% overnight travel and residence near a major airport. Candidates living in California are not eligible for this role.
Responsibilities
- Build new business relationships with leading CPG brands and retail organizations to expand display and merchandising programs.
- Work directly with brand, trade marketing, and retail stakeholders to understand business priorities, category targets, and shopper marketing needs.
- Design display and merchandising concepts tailored to brand direction, seasonal campaigns, and in-store promotions.
- Represent the company at trade events, industry shows, and client meetings to promote display innovation and strengthen market presence.
- Partner with design, engineering, and production teams to create practical, cost-effective, and brand-consistent display solutions.
- Manage proposal and pricing activities by defining customer needs, scoping programs accurately, and supporting timely delivery.
- Act as the communication link between customers and internal teams to ensure smooth execution from concept through installation.
- Track program performance and market shifts, then use those insights to improve programs and uncover new opportunities.
- Keep opportunity records current in CRM systems and provide clear reporting to sales, project, and leadership teams.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in business development or account management, ideally in a CPG company, retail business, or beverage brand.
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Self-driven approach with the ability to prospect, pursue, and secure new business.
- Ability to identify new markets, build creative solutions, and convert customer needs into actionable display programs.
- Experience handling key accounts and building long-term client relationships, or experience leading retail store teams with a focus on customer and associate engagement.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including phone, email, and face-to-face interactions, with the ability to influence stakeholders at different levels.
- Solid organizational ability, including CRM management, P&L ownership awareness, and forecasting experience.
- Comfort with a role that involves 50% travel.
- Residence near a major airport is required.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional settings while balancing independent initiative with team goals.
- Background in CPG, retail, DSD, or beverage industries is preferred.
- This role is not open to candidates residing in California.
