Role Overview

Glanua, a leading company in the water and wastewater industry, is recruiting a Mechanical Estimator to join their head office in Loughrea, County Galway. This position demands precision in preparing detailed and analytical mechanical engineering estimates that are technically accurate and balanced in risk. The estimator will collaborate closely with design, project management, and procurement teams to produce innovative, cost-effective solutions that align with client needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive mechanical engineering estimates based on project drawings and specifications, ensuring accuracy and realistic risk consideration.
• Participate actively in design development stages by assessing buildability, material choices, and identifying innovation opportunities while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
• Provide preliminary pricing information during tendering to support option evaluation and budget planning.
• Strictly follow and document risk management and governance protocols to ensure compliance and project success.
• Assist in creating tender preparation and construction schedules, coordinating with multiple departments to compile staff rosters informed by prior project data.
• Collaborate with procurement teams to design detailed procurement plans, identify suppliers and subcontractors efficiently, and negotiate favorable conditions and discounts.
• Initiate and manage requests for quotations to secure competitive offers for materials and subcontracted work related to mechanical engineering.
• Stay informed of recent advancements and novel methodologies in mechanical engineering to improve estimate accuracy and competitive edge.
• Construct financial models tailored to framework submissions, ensuring staffing rates match budgetary constraints.
• Adhere to standardized cost coding schemes to facilitate precise feedback loops and future cost analysis, promoting financial consistency and control.

Required Expertise and Skills

• At least 5 years’ experience specializing in mechanical estimating, ideally within water, wastewater, or construction industries.
• Proven ability in preparing detailed and exact mechanical cost assessments.
• Strong analytical thinking and numerical aptitude with meticulous attention to detail.
• Comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and construction methodologies.
• Proficiency with cost estimation tools and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, skilled at collaborative teamwork.
• Capacity to manage numerous projects concurrently and deliver within stringent deadlines.
