Role Description
As a Maintenance Assistant reporting to the Team Leader - Maintenance, you will undertake a variety of hands-on tasks aimed at ensuring a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff. You will embrace problem solving and take pride in contributing positively to the wellbeing of older adults.
- Perform routine maintenance repairs and preventive upkeep throughout the facility.
- Assist with fixing fixtures, fittings, and the building’s infrastructure as needed.
- Maintain outdoor grounds and surrounding areas to ensure they remain clean and well-kept.
- Respond promptly to reported maintenance requests and prioritize work accordingly.
- Support emergency repair efforts promptly when required.
- Collaborate effectively with the maintenance team and other departments.
- Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety standards while carrying out all duties.
- Help create a comfortable, home-like environment that fosters resident independence and wellbeing.
Required Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will be dependable and practical, enjoying a varied workload and taking responsibility for upholding safety and presentation standards.
- Proven experience in general maintenance roles.
- Competence in performing a broad range of practical maintenance tasks.
- Familiarity with using maintenance tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Good comprehension of occupational health and safety practices.
- Ability to identify problems and implement effective solutions.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- A team-focused and supportive work ethic.
Essential Requirements
- Current National Police Clearance.
- Valid manual driver’s license.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience or qualifications in trade, construction, or related fields.
- Prior experience working in aged care, retirement living, or similar sectors.
- Recommended current COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations.
