About the Institute
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is an internationally recognized biomedical and hospital research center based in Montreal, Quebec. Affiliated with McGill University's Faculty of Medicine, it advances patient-focused scientific innovation and is partially funded by Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position Overview
This opportunity is for a temporary full-time Laboratory Technician within the Child Health and Human Development Program, focusing on reproductive and stem cell biology, as well as protein engineering. The six-month role substitutes a parental leave and aims to develop a protein compound that modulates the blood-testis barrier to enhance stem cell transplantation efficiency. Related research can be found in recent scientific publications and patents.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and construct expression constructs targeting specific proteins.
- Produce and purify protein compounds for experimental use.
- Administer protein compounds in tissue culture systems.
- Perform immunological staining and conduct image analysis for experimental validation.
- Optimize laboratory protocols and troubleshoot challenges in molecular and tissue culture techniques.
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary research team and maintain strong communication.
Required Experience and Skills
- Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Cell/Tissue Culture.
- Between one to two years of practical laboratory experience.
- Proficient French language skills are mandatory.
- Basic oral English and intermediate written English skills to communicate and analyze research in English.
- Hands-on expertise in molecular biology methods such as western blotting, molecular cloning, and immunoprecipitation.
- Demonstrated skills in cell culture, immunostaining, and associated analytical techniques.
- Excellent organizational aptitude, punctuality, strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and a diligent work ethic.
Additional Information
- Employment Type: Temporary full-time position (35-hour workweek).
- Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Location: Glen Site, 1001 Decarie Blvd, Montreal.
