Lakers Sports & Social is a non-profit entity located in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, dedicated to supporting around 350 children, young adults, and adults with intellectual disabilities through a variety of inclusive sport, social, and recreational programs. Established in 1989, Lakers aims to foster confidence, friendships, independence, and a welcoming community feeling among members via activities such as swimming, athletics, bowling, cookery, dance, youth clubs, junior and teen programs, camps, outings, and community events. Role Summary

The Junior Sports and Social Instructor position is a 12-month, fixed-term role funded by the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal through Community Foundation Ireland (RCN: 20044886). This part-time role (30 hours weekly including evenings and weekends) involves aiding in the development, planning, and execution of inclusive classes, camps, outings, and social sports for children and young people aged 5-18 with intellectual disabilities. The Instructor will work closely with the Programme Manager to create engaging, safe, and inclusive environments that build confidence, promote participation, and encourage social development.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Programme Manager to plan and deliver weekly inclusive sports, arts, crafts, social skills, cookery, and play activities.
• Support the active involvement of junior members, their parents, and guardians in program activities.
• Assist in developing and expanding the junior program curriculum and activity calendar.
• Provide guidance and support to volunteers and work experience students involved in the junior programs.
• Maintain a professional and supportive learning atmosphere with sound health and safety practices.
• Keep accurate attendance records and support program feedback, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Occasionally assist with broader organizational activities as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Essential: Experience working with children or young people.
• Proficiency with computers and digital literacy.
• Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating empathy, respect for diversity, and ability to work independently and proactively.
• A flexible, responsible, and mature approach with the ability to be a team player.

• Preferred (Advantageous): Previous training or tutoring experience.
• Valid clean driver’s license.
• Experience working with people with disabilities.

Terms and Additional Information

This position lasts for one year and is reliant on grant funding. Continuation beyond this period is contingent upon securing further funding, with no guarantees. The role requires approximately 30 hours per week with some evening and weekend commitments. Pay will be commensurate with experience and is to be determined.
