This role requires acting as a key intermediary between the Claims Team, breach counsel, Incident Response (IR) providers, and customers to expertly guide organizations throughout the full cyber incident lifecycle, combining deep forensic expertise, legal comprehension, and concise communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all stages of incident response including scoping, containment, eradication, and recovery within moderately complex, multi-system environments.
- Act as the main contact for Cowbell's Claims Team, breach counsel, IR providers, and insured parties during active incident engagements.
- Supervise digital forensics and incident response providers to ensure precise and timely analyses of compromised systems.
- Manage multiple concurrent engagements efficiently, identifying and controlling scope creep to keep projects on schedule and aligned with stakeholder expectations.
- Organize and lead communication sessions that translate complex forensic results into clear, actionable reports tailored for technical teams, legal advisors, and executives.
- Operate with awareness of legal sensitivities including Attorney-Client Privilege and Work Product Doctrine, ensuring proper handling of sensitive data in collaboration with legal counsel.
- Work collaboratively with claims adjusters, underwriters, and external partners to support comprehensive incident documentation and insurance coverage decisions.
- Help refine and enhance Cowbell's Resiliency Services incident response strategies, playbooks, and tools.
Qualifications and Experience
- 4–6 years of practical experience in Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR), ideally including involvement with the cyber insurance sector through engagement with insurers, breach counsel, and/or policyholders.
- Proven abilities managing the full lifecycle of cyber incidents across medium complexity multi-system environments.
- Strong project management aptitude with experience identifying and mitigating scope creep during investigations.
- Knowledge and experience working under legal frameworks such as Attorney-Client Privilege and Work Product Doctrine.
- Excellent consulting and communication skills, capable of presenting technical forensic findings effectively to a range of audiences including legal and executive personnel.
Education and Certifications
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security Management, Digital Forensics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Alternatively, equivalent professional experience combined with one or more certifications such as GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), GIAC Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA), CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
