HVAC/Refrigeration Technician

Role overview

This full-time, non-management engineering and facilities position supports a luxury hotel operation in Doha, Qatar. The role focuses on responding to maintenance needs, keeping building systems and guest areas in good working order, and delivering service that meets high hospitality standards.

Key duties

• Handle guest repair requests and work with guests or customers to resolve maintenance concerns.
• Carry out preventive maintenance on tools, kitchen equipment, and mechanical-room equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
• Inspect tools, machines, and equipment visually to spot issues early.
• Move and carry required equipment such as tools and radios.
• Locate and operate shut-off valves and other utility shut-offs for equipment and buildings.
• Track maintenance stock, and request replacement parts and supplies when needed.
• Share daily work updates and issues with other shifts using approved communication methods and standards.
• Apply working knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing, pneumatic and electronic controls, carpentry, finishing, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building upkeep.
• Do minor surface prep, painting, drywall touch-ups, wood trim repairs, light bulb replacements, and A/C filter changes, and clean the work area thoroughly afterward.
• Test equipment and complete basic repairs on plumbing, electrical items, guestroom fixtures, and small appliances, including clogged drains, toilets, lamps, switches, outlets, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, and extension cords.
• Program televisions and support general housekeeping and engineering inventory tasks.
• Use the Lockout/Tagout process before starting maintenance work.
• Repair interior and exterior landscaping features, including sprinkler systems.
• Use basic computer skills to enter air-handler schedules and adjust temperatures.
• Follow company, safety, and security procedures, report hazards, incidents, injuries, and maintenance issues, and complete required safety training and certifications.
• Store flammable materials correctly and maintain a clean, professional appearance.
• Protect confidential information and company assets.
• Greet guests professionally, respond to their service needs, support guests with disabilities, and thank them sincerely.
• Maintain quality standards, build positive working relationships, communicate clearly, and contribute to shared team goals.
• Perform physical tasks that may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing stairs, working on ramps or ladders, and reaching overhead or below the knees.
• Use computers to enter and find work-related information.
• Carry out other reasonable job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is preferred.
• Some background in general maintenance and in exterior or interior surface preparation and painting.
• Prior experience in hotel engineering or maintenance is an advantage.
• No supervisory experience is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Ability to safely handle physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier items with help.
• Comfort with climbing, bending, twisting, stooping, and working on stairs, ladders, or ramps.
• Basic computer literacy is needed for scheduling and temperature-control input.
