Position summary
This role is focused on delivering thorough, efficient, personalized, and technically strong cleaning and cabin service while following company procedures and strict public health requirements. The aim is to support complete guest satisfaction through consistently high housekeeping standards.
Reporting structure
This position reports to the Rooms Division Manager, Butler Manager, and the Head Utility, where applicable.
Key responsibilities
- Keep assigned public and crew areas in excellent condition through daily vacuuming, dusting, polishing, high dusting, garbage removal, sanitizing, shampooing, general floor care, stripping and waxing, restroom servicing, and cleaning/polishing brass, handrails, fixtures, and glass doors.
- Clean assigned officer cabins and bathrooms each day to the highest standard possible.
- Provide laundry and valet support for officers’ cabins in the assigned section.
- Carry out turndown service in assigned cabins as outlined in the benefit grid.
- Complete sanitation tasks according to schedule and record them in the sanitation log in line with company and public health procedures.
- Work closely with the housekeeping utility team and help wherever support is needed.
- Handle requisition collection and distribution, ensuring deliveries match the approved requisitions.
- Manage towel delivery and collection at the gangway.
- Assist as part of the wheelchair support team and report to the gangway when needed.
- Take responsibility for cleaning materials and chemicals, including correct storage and safe handling.
- Water plants, orchids, and floral arrangements in public areas when assigned to florist duties.
- Support embarkation and disembarkation activities as directed by the Rooms Division Manager.
- Maintain strong communication and feedback flow within the Rooms Division and with other shipboard departments.
- Attend daily briefings and follow departmental standards, specifications, and work routines.
- Complete special daily side-duty tasks as assigned.
- Follow outbreak response procedures at all times.
- Keep Rooms Division lockers clean, orderly, and compliant with public health standards.
- Respect crew and officer privacy, and do not share private information with others.
- Use discretion and courtesy when entering cabins.
- Provide luggage handling support when required.
- Assist with regular inventories of Rooms Division equipment.
- Clean and maintain work areas and equipment in line with public health standards.
- Use ship equipment carefully, report broken or faulty items honestly, and track repair progress with the supervisor until resolved.
- Work to reduce breakage and wastage and dispose of garbage using correct procedures.
- Maintain awareness of cost and quality in day-to-day work.
- Support managers and supervisors in training and onboarding new team members.
- Respond quickly and effectively to issues or emerging problems, involving the right people as needed and escalating service difficulties, complaints, or challenges to the immediate supervisor.
- Attend all training sessions to continuously improve performance.
- Stay well informed about the ship’s daily activities in order to assist and advise guests.
- Interact with guests confidently and professionally, using guest names consistently.
- Follow the company code of conduct at all times.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks as required.
- Keep the Rooms Division Manager and Butler Manager fully updated on important matters and issues.
- Comply with company standard operating procedures and remain accountable for following them.
- Deliver personalized service and genuine hospitality while anticipating guest needs and creating positive guest experiences.
- Maintain proper workplace conduct and collaborate respectfully with all departments on board.
- Observe and enforce uniform and grooming standards in line with company policy.
- Perform any other duties assigned.
Safety duties
- Take part in crew and passenger safety drills as instructed.
- Always follow company safety and pollution-prevention rules and operating procedures.
- Participate in all mandatory training programs.
- Set a good example by protecting the health and safety of self and others.
- Use work equipment, PPE, chemicals, and safety devices correctly at all times.
Qualifications and requirements
- Valid STCW95 certification is required.
- Prior housekeeping experience in a 5-star environment is expected.
- Working knowledge of public health policies and procedures is needed.
- The candidate must be physically and medically fit.
- High moral integrity is essential.
- Strong fluent English communication skills, both spoken and written, are required.
- English is the ship’s working and safety language, so the role requires the ability to give and receive instructions clearly in both spoken and written form and to communicate effectively with guests and crew.
Physical demands and working conditions
This job involves standing, walking long distances, reaching, sitting, repeated bending, and moving up and down stairs. The role may require lifting or pushing loads of up to 50 lbs. Overtime and irregular schedules are part of the working pattern. Work takes place in guest-facing and back-of-house areas of the vessel, where there may be noise, light traffic, and distracting surroundings.
