Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Heavy Machinery Operator to join our team in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand. Reporting directly to the Yard Leading Hand, you will be crucial in the sorting, grading, processing, and procurement of scrap metals using a variety of advanced machinery. This role offers comprehensive training and opportunities for skill enhancement and career progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as Material Handlers, Excavators/Shears, Skid Steers/Bobcats, and other production plant machinery.
- Sort, categorize, and process diverse metal materials efficiently.
- Maintain rigorous adherence to workplace health and safety standards.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe yard and warehouse environment.
- Utilize strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail in material identification and processing.
- Plan and prioritize daily tasks to enhance operational effectiveness.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience operating machinery or plant equipment such as Material Handlers, Excavators/Shears, or Skid Steers/Bobcats preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail in identifying, segregating, and processing various metal types.
- Positive, proactive attitude with eagerness to acquire new skills.
- Reliable with a strong work ethic, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Genuine commitment to maintaining workplace safety.
Physical Demands
This role is physically demanding, requiring regular manual handling, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing in and out of machinery, and other general labor tasks within a busy yard environment. Candidates must be physically fit to handle these duties.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Forklift Licence and WTR endorsements.
- Background in metal recycling, including metal sorting and processing techniques.
- Experience operating additional heavy machinery or production plant equipment.
