Head of Operations and Network Deployment

About the Role

Our client is a dynamic and rapidly expanding tech-driven urban logistics operator, which has proven success in the UK market and is now embarking on launching operations in Germany. They utilize intelligent routing software, independent drivers, cross-docking, and micro-fulfilment to create a fast, flexible last-mile delivery network.

This position offers a unique chance to establish and grow the German branch from scratch rather than managing an existing setup.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and operationalize the German division from the ground up.
• Locate, assess, and secure operational locations across Germany.
• Construct a scalable independent driver network.
• Develop cross-docking, sorting, and micro-fulfilment operations.
• Engage third-party partners, suppliers, and local stakeholders effectively.
• Oversee service levels, cost efficiency, productivity, quality, and safety, taking corrective measures as needed.
• Hire, lead, and cultivate the German operations team amidst business expansion.
• Collaborate closely with central teams in Operations, Technology, Customer Success, and Leadership to integrate Germany into the broader organization while providing local market insight.

Milestones for Success

Within the first 12 months:

• Successful launch and stable operation of the Düsseldorf branch.
• Established dependable driver capacity supported by scalable recruitment.
• Operational facilities fully functional and productive.
• Seamless integration of Germany into corporate technology platforms and operational systems.
• Clear operational KPIs on service, cost, productivity, and capacity.
• Developed expansion plans targeting major metropolitan areas including Rhine-Ruhr, Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich.

By 24 months:

• Stable, efficient operations established in five major German regions.
• A robust driver and partner network facilitating national growth.
• Fully operational cross-dock and micro-fulfilment infrastructure.
• Consistent achievement of operational KPIs in line with service and commercial goals.
• Established experienced local leadership team.
• A replicable German operating model prepared for further expansion.

Profile Requirements

• Extensive operational leadership experience in German parcel delivery, logistics, courier, fulfilment, or last-mile sectors.
• Proven expertise in launching new sites or distribution networks.
• Track record of managing multi-site operations through rapid growth phases.
• Experience building driver networks, operational teams, and third-party partnerships from inception.
• Strong commercial insight with a focus on data-driven operational enhancements.
• A hands-on, proactive leadership approach with enthusiasm for business development.
• Ability to make sound decisions in fast-paced, evolving environments.
• Excellent relationship management spanning drivers, teams, suppliers, and senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and responsibility.
