Role Overview

This leadership role involves managing Sentient’s engagement with the global open-source AI community, spanning developers creating open models, tools, agents, data, and evaluations. The Head will be a trusted advocate for open-source AI, forging strong relationships with key ecosystem contributors and integrating their projects into Sentient’s platform. Responsibilities include setting strategy for the community and ecosystem, recruiting developers to contribute broadly and to Sentient’s technology stack (including ROMA, ODS, EvoSkills, Arena, OML), and involving council members, advisors, and thought leaders in the Foundation’s governance. The position also includes overseeing open-source AI grants and investments, channeling community insights into product and research priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Foundation’s strategy for community and ecosystem development in open-source AI, promoting models, tools, agents, and evaluations, with Sentient’s own stack as a key part.
• Create programs, content, and teams aimed at enabling developers to progress from initial engagement to active product contributions.
• Advocate for open-source AI through diverse communications—tutorials, documentation, blogs, demos, and presentations—that guide developers in leveraging the open ecosystem and Sentient’s offerings.
• Manage and expand the developer community on platforms such as Discord, GitHub, and X, addressing technical inquiries, overseeing contributions, and transforming dedicated users into partners.
• Recruit ecosystem leaders including council members, advisors, and prominent figures to support the Foundation’s mission, programs, and governance.
• Represent Sentient at industry events, hackathons, and online forums, conducting workshops and contributing to open-source projects.
• Serve as the advocate for developers within the organization by compiling and prioritizing feedback for product and research teams, aiding in SDK and API design improvements.
• Collaborate with product, research, and growth teams to highlight developer success stories and integrate new agents, models, data sources, and compute partners into the open ecosystem and Sentient’s stack.

Candidate Profile

• At least four years of experience in developer relations, community management, or ecosystem development, preferably within open-source AI/ML, data, or infrastructure sectors.
• Strong technical proficiency with coding skills in Python and/or TypeScript, experience working with agent frameworks, and comprehensive knowledge of the open-source stack (ROMA, ODS, EvoSkills, Arena, OML).
• Minimum four years contributing to open-source software and a robust personal network spanning the open-source AI developer community.
• Demonstrated success in recruiting and assembling senior leaders such as founders, advisors, and thought leaders around a unifying mission, with recognition as a spokesperson in open-source or developer circles.
• Clear understanding of large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and agent frameworks with the ability to explain complex topics effectively through various content forms.
• A publicly visible portfolio showcasing developer-focused content such as tutorials, talks, demos, OSS contributions, or community engagement.
• Sound technical judgment for assessing projects and for sourcing and vetting candidates for grant and investment opportunities.
• Familiarity or genuine interest in Web3 technologies, including token incentives and blockchain interoperability.
• Strong empathy for users, excellent written communication skills, and a proactive approach to delivering results.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source AI/ML projects.
• Knowledge of agent frameworks, model fine-tuning, model evaluation and benchmarking, or decentralized/crypto ecosystems.
• Background in managing or participating in grants, accelerators, or developer fund programs.
• Proven ability to grow developer ecosystems measurably.
