About the Company
Our client is a prominent player in Nigeria's fast-moving consumer goods and retail distribution sector, with expanding operations across several cities. They are key contributors to the availability of FMCG products by maintaining effective distribution networks, prioritizing customer service, and focusing on operational success and market development.
Position Overview
The role of Head of Human Resources entails leading the HR function across the entire business, setting the strategic vision for talent management, company culture, and workforce performance. Reporting to top management, this leader will oversee multiple divisional HR managers and ensure alignment of HR initiatives with the company's expansion and operational goals within a demanding retail context.
Primary Duties
- Direct enterprise-wide HR leadership across all divisions.
- Supervise Divisional HR Managers ensuring consistent and effective HR service delivery.
- Formulate and implement HR strategies that support business growth and organizational objectives.
- Champion culture transformation efforts to enhance employee engagement and performance.
- Manage performance frameworks and drive employee relations policies.
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian labor laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Develop and operationalize scalable HR systems, practices, and frameworks.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on workforce planning and talent acquisition strategies.
- Lead organizational change initiatives.
- Build leadership capabilities across various business units.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring extensive HR leadership experience within large, fast-moving organizations, particularly in retail, FMCG, or similarly complex sectors. They will be skilled in driving cultural change, managing sizeable HR teams across multiple sites, and balancing strategic insight with pragmatic execution.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Social Sciences, or related fields.
- Possession of professional HR certifications such as CIPM, SHRM, CIPD, or equivalents is highly favored.
- A minimum of 12 years progressive experience in HR, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record managing large HR teams and multi-location operations.
- Experience in culture transformation, performance management, and employee relations strategies.
- Background in retail, FMCG, banking, or other fast-paced, multi-site environments is preferred.
- Experience managing organizations with more than 3000 employees.
Technical and Functional Skills
- Deep understanding of Nigerian labor laws and HR best practices.
- Expertise in designing and implementing enterprise HR structures and systems.
- Strong ability in performance management and organizational culture projects.
- Proficiency with HR analytics, data utilization, and reporting tools.
- Skilled in developing and executing operational HR processes.

Additional Information
- Location: Primary workbase is Port Harcourt, with a requirement to be in Lagos for two weeks every six weeks.
- Compensation: Monthly gross salary ranging from ₦4,200,000 to ₦5,500,000, negotiable depending on experience.
- Benefits: Company-provided vehicle and relocation allowance if necessary.
