Role Overview
This opportunity is presented by a partner company seeking a Head of AI based in Germany, operating in a fully remote capacity. The role involves spearheading AI research, development, and production in the domain of cybersecurity, focusing on innovative AI systems such as large language models (LLMs) and autonomous agents to address complex security challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and steer the company's AI research agenda by identifying new technologies and translating them into actionable product plans.
- Lead the creation of evaluation frameworks for autonomous AI agents that assess performance across unpredictable workflows and improve continuous model quality.
- Design, prototype, and implement cutting-edge AI features, swiftly transitioning from experimental stages to production-level deployments.
- Manage model fine-tuning processes, selection, routing strategies, context engineering, and inference optimizations using real production data.
- Set technical priorities and guide a high-performing AI engineering team by assessing research outcomes based on business and feasibility considerations.
- Lead through hands-on software development, architectural choices, mentorship, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving efforts.
- Collaborate closely with engineering leadership, product teams, and customers to ensure AI capabilities meet security-related business needs.
- Continuously enhance AI system performance, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and reliability while establishing sustainable technical standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Extensive experience leading AI projects coupled with active involvement in software development and execution.
- Proven success delivering production-grade LLM or autonomous AI systems with real-world usage.
- In-depth knowledge of transformer models, fine-tuning methods such as LoRA, inference optimization, and contemporary generative AI techniques.
- Expertise in designing evaluation frameworks for autonomous or non-deterministic AI, including trajectory analysis and benchmarking.
- Strong programming capability for scalable machine learning systems in production settings.
- Experience in fast-paced startup roles managing projects from concept through deployment independently.
- Solid leadership skills including coaching engineers, setting engineering standards, and influencing cross-functional decisions.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to balance innovation, performance, and cost effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills for conveying complex AI concepts to technical and business audiences.
- Preferred experience in cybersecurity, vulnerability management, offensive security, or AI-driven security tools.
- Additional advantages include experience with model routing optimization, inference cost reduction, RLHF, AI evaluation pipelines, and advanced academic research in machine learning.

- Competitive yearly salary between £180,000 and £250,000 GBP.
