Position Overview
Chesterfield County is seeking a GIS Analyst to join their Utilities Department in Chesterfield, VA. This full-time onsite role offers an annual salary range of $62,154 to $83,906 and involves supporting the creation, updating, and maintenance of geographic information systems data specific to water, sewer, and utility infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Support GIS development and administration under general supervision by executing complex professional duties.
- Create, maintain, and update GIS map layers, produce customized mapping products such as shape files, graphics, tables, and reports.
- Conduct spatial analyses and perform database queries; develop and maintain spatial data structures using GIS tools and relational databases.
- Write moderately complex queries, scripts, and instructions to enhance GIS functionality.
- Compile and integrate data from diverse sources, converting non-GIS formats into usable GIS formats.
- Conduct data extraction, organization, and quality control to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Update water, sewer, and easement GIS layers regularly and maintain utility schematics using computer-aided drafting software.
- Interpret engineering plans, field notes, and easement plats, and verify water and sewer availability for public inquiries.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in geography, cartography, planning, engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- At least two years of experience operating and using geographic information systems, or equivalent training and experience.
- Working knowledge of GIS principles, programming languages, and development tools.
- Proficiency with computer-aided drafting and mapping software, including AutoCAD and ESRI-based GIS applications.
- Ability to efficiently manage and utilize personal computers, software, and standard office equipment.
- Strong ability to collect, interpret, and integrate diverse data sources.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to build and sustain productive relationships with both internal teams and external customers.
- Pre-employment requirements include drug testing, FBI background check, and degree verification.

- Maintaining personal mobile technology is required as a condition of employment.
