General Labourer

Role overview

BELFOR Property Restoration Canada is looking for a General Labourer to support restoration, warehouse, and moving activities in Barrie, Ontario. The position is part of a fast-moving environment where the team responds to property damage and helps people recover after unexpected events. The job contributes to restoration work, warehouse support, and material handling while maintaining safety, quality, and customer focus.

The role involves practical field and warehouse tasks such as demolition, emergency damage mitigation, furniture moving, cleaning, specialized restoration support, and general warehouse duties. Success in this position depends on careful work, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work both independently and with a team.

Key responsibilities

• Use hand and power tools for tasks such as board-up work, cutting, measuring, and installing job-related materials when needed.
• Keep warehouse stock, tools, and equipment tidy and well organized, and help with maintenance and small repairs so items remain usable.
• Assemble and remove scaffolding, poly containment setups, and other temporary structures used on restoration jobs.
• Carry out restoration support work including demolition, cleaning, deodorizing, and relocating contents affected by fire, smoke, water, or other emergencies.
• Support vehicle safety checks, debris cleanup, warehouse housekeeping, and assistance to tradespeople and apprentices as required.
• Maintain orderly and clean worksites in both field and warehouse settings.
• Follow safety requirements by assessing hazards, keeping work areas safe, using tools, equipment, and PPE properly, and reporting unsafe situations or incidents without delay.
• Take part in safety training, inspections, and safety-related initiatives led by the Health and Safety Department.
• Help move, take apart, rebuild, and place furniture, equipment, and contents in job sites or storage areas.
• Build and maintain safe work zones, including safety enclosures and debris disposal arrangements, while following company operating standards.
• Load, transport, and unload furniture, equipment, and job materials at sites and between storage locations.
• Handle other reasonable duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to handle physically demanding work, including lifting and moving in confined spaces.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well with supervisors and team members.
• Valid driver’s licence and the ability to operate a motor vehicle as required for company auto employees.

Training and development

• Training will be provided on BELFOR’s processes, procedures, systems, and equipment.
• IICRC certification and other company-sponsored courses may be provided as needed.
• There are ongoing opportunities for professional development, education, and skill-building to stay aligned with current industry practices.

Working conditions

• Frequent lifting of 5 to 40 lbs without assistance, for about 35% to 65% of the time.
• Occasional lifting of 41 lbs or more with assistance, for up to 50% of the time.
• Need to access and move around in tight spaces.
• Fit testing for half-face and full-face masks as required, with annual certification.
• Work at heights above 5 feet on a periodic basis.
• Long periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
