Position Overview
Located in Glenorchy within the Southern Lakes region, Dart River Adventures invites applications for a permanent, full-time Funyak Guide position, requiring a minimum commitment of 32 hours per week. This role centers on leading and supervising guests during river-based commercial adventure experiences, emphasizing optimal safety while providing memorable journeys through New Zealand's stunning Dart River landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading river excursions, ensuring guest safety throughout the experience.
- Delivering thorough safety briefings and instructing guests on paddling techniques.
- Monitoring and evaluating river and weather conditions to manage potential risks.
- Responding promptly and appropriately to emergencies and incidents.
- Maintaining all relevant equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Sharing knowledge about the Dart River area's unique stories and natural features with guests.
- Providing occasional coach driving support to assist broader operational needs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification in Outdoor Education, Adventure Tourism, Outdoor Recreation, or an equivalent overseas credential; or alternatively, a minimum of three years' relevant experience guiding groups or individuals in activities such as whitewater rafting, kayaking, river tourism, or closely related outdoor adventure fields.

- Experienced in supervising groups amid dynamic and changing conditions.
- Skilled in risk identification and mitigation concerning river and weather variability.
- Capability to handle emergencies effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills paired with a customer-focused approach.
- Strong dedication to safety, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Physical fitness that supports paddling, equipment handling, and exposure to variable weather.
Mandatory Requirements
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Current River Rescue qualification or the ability to obtain it within a set timeframe.
- Full Driver Licence holding.
- Confident swimming skills and proficiency in moving water environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class 2 Driver Licence.
- P Endorsement on Licence.
- Prior experience in commercial rafting or river guiding.
- Additional qualifications relevant to the outdoor adventure sector.
