Full-time Preschool Teacher for 3-Year-Olds and Pre-Kindergarten at The Sandbox

About The Role

The Sandbox, a child care program located in Resource, Saint Andrew, Jamaica, is seeking a dedicated full-time preschool teacher for children aged 3 to 5 years. The position involves creating a secure and supportive atmosphere that promotes children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment for young learners.
• Maintain regular communication with families about children's daily activities, progress, and routines.
• Design and implement lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and meet early learning standards.
• Encourage play-based learning focused on literacy, early math, science, social skills, and motor development.
• Set up stimulating learning areas such as dramatic play, sensory activities, art, blocks, and science centers.
• Observe and evaluate individual children's growth and milestones regularly.
• Keep the classroom environment clean, orderly, and compliant with state licensing and health regulations.
• Provide constant supervision of children both indoors and outdoors, including during transitions.
• Establish daily structures and clear, positive behavioral expectations.
• Utilize positive discipline techniques and trauma-informed approaches to guide behavior.
• Support children with personal hygiene tasks including handwashing, independent bathroom use, and meal/snack routines.

Requirements

• Applicants should be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma.
• AAS or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related discipline is preferred.
• Willingness to pursue college courses toward an AAS degree, with tuition support provided.
• Completion of criminal background check and fingerprinting obligations before employment start.
• Medical examination and TB screening required prior to employment, covered by the employer.
• Drug screening prior to starting employment, paid for by employer.
• CPR and First Aid certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire, with costs covered.
• Experience in licensed early childhood settings with preschool-aged children is preferred.

Working Hours

The work schedule runs approximately from 7:45/8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Compensation

Hourly wage will be determined based on the candidate's experience and educational qualifications.
