About Rocket Lab

Rocket Lab is a comprehensive space enterprise offering launch services, spacecraft design and manufacturing, as well as satellite components. Our mission is to democratize access to space, supporting critical global efforts in scientific research, Earth monitoring, climate initiatives, national security, and technology innovation. With our Electron rocket making frequent U.S. launches and over 230 satellites deployed, we’re developing Neutron, a medium-lift reusable rocket for larger satellite constellations. Our Space Systems division crafts satellites and components selected for missions to the Moon, Mars, and the James Webb Space Telescope.

Role Overview

The Flight Analysis Engineer on Electron Operations undertakes comprehensive mission and flight safety analyses, coordinating internally and externally, including support for Neutron missions. The role involves developing analytical methods, software tools, and documentation critical for flight safety, launch readiness, and on-orbit operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Create and refine flight safety analysis tools focused on Electron operations, encompassing trajectory studies, debris tracking, re-entry studies, and risk evaluation using Python/C++ and detailed flight simulations.
  • Handle extensive datasets and develop statistical models to estimate failure likelihoods while enhancing process efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory adherence.
  • Support launch activities through risk data generation, operator interface design, on-console launch assistance, and verification of launch range systems.
  • Compile and upkeep exhaustive flight safety documents such as data packages, licensing files, standard operating procedures, and maintain detailed analysis records.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficient programming skills, especially with Python.
  • Minimum three years of experience in engineering analysis involving numerical modeling, simulations, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of launch vehicle dynamics, orbital mechanics, and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC).
  • Experience with configuration management and version control systems.
  • Excellent technical writing capabilities, with familiarity with LaTeX as an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preparing flight safety documentation such as data packages, compliance matrices, and failure mode analyses.
  • Background in flight safety programs for launch vehicles.

Organizational Culture and Expectations

Joining Rocket Lab means being part of a dedicated team where innovation, collaboration, and persistence thrive. We value humility and teamwork, pushing boundaries to achieve ambitious goals under challenging conditions with tight deadlines.
