Job description

Overview

The Fireman position at G4S involves ensuring swift and effective responses to fire emergencies at various client locations across India. The role focuses on fire hazard prevention and supporting overall safety measures through regular inspections, drills, and compliance with safety regulations.

Primary Duties

  • Carry out frequent fire safety inspections, especially in high-risk zones, to spot and report hazards and unsafe practices with recommendations for corrections.
  • Ensure safe storage and use of flammable substances following established guidelines.
  • Verify the presence, functionality, and accessibility of firefighting equipment including extinguishers, hydrants, hoses, sprinklers, alarms, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting.
  • React promptly to fire alerts and emergencies, operating firefighting tools such as extinguishers, hose reels, foam, and breathing devices.
  • Organize evacuation of personnel to safe assembly points and assist in administering first aid during emergencies alongside paramedical teams.
  • Support firefighting teams and local authorities in fire control and post-incident recovery.
  • Maintain thorough records of incidents and inspections, assist with compliance to national and client-specific fire safety codes, and support audits and third-party inspections.
  • Participate in and conduct fire drills and emergency simulations, educating personnel on protocols and demonstrating the proper use of firefighting equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain firefighting apparatus and ensure escape routes and emergency exits remain unobstructed, coordinating with facility teams for necessary maintenance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum education requirement is completion of 10th grade.
  • Possession of a diploma or certificate in Fire Safety or Industrial Firefighting from a recognized institution is required.
  • Preferred certifications include training from State Fire Services, Civil Defence, or government-recognized organizations and basic First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience ranging from 2 to 5 years in industrial, commercial, or institutional firefighting roles is desired; however, fresh candidates with formal training may also be considered.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Ability to remain composed and act quickly under emergency conditions.
  • Physically fit to carry and manage firefighting equipment.
  • Effective communication skills with basic proficiency in Hindi, English, or regional languages.
  • Team-oriented mindset combined with discipline and responsibility.

Work Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Work involves rotational shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Tasks require use of personal protective equipment in high-risk environments.
  • Physical demands include staying alert, being mobile for the entire shift, climbing, lifting, and operating in confined spaces or elevated locations.
