Fire Mitigation Officer

Position Overview

Redland City Council is seeking a dedicated Fire Mitigation Officer to join their team on a permanent full-time basis, working 36.25 hours per week. This role offers an annual salary ranging from $83,000 to $89,014 plus a 13% superannuation contribution. The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing the Council's fire mitigation initiatives, focusing on community safety across the Redlands Coast including both mainland and island areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively undertake fire hazard mitigation tasks, conduct property inspections, and educate the community while addressing customer concerns and identified risks.
• Evaluate both private and public properties for fire risks such as overgrown vegetation and other environmental hazards.
• Investigate issues related to illegal dumping and littering.
• Engage and educate residents, community groups, and stakeholders regarding fire mitigation and environmental responsibilities.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with community members, government agencies, and other stakeholders to foster positive community outcomes.
• Document findings through evidence collection, photography, report and notice preparation, and other compliance-related paperwork.
• Manage investigation cases and support compliance with Local Laws, State legislation, and Council policies.
• Conduct site inspections across mainland and island locations of the Redlands Coast.
• Collaborate within a high-performing, supportive team environment committed to continuous improvement and excellent customer service.

• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution abilities.
• Experience in community engagement to educate and encourage compliance.
• Proven skills in investigation and evidence gathering.
• Ability to understand and pragmatically apply legislation consistently.
• Strong written communication skills for preparing clear reports and compliance documents.
• Capability to prioritize tasks, manage workload efficiently, and meet deadlines.
• Physical fitness and ability to safely perform outdoor, fieldwork duties.
• Resilience, initiative, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Background in fire mitigation, environmental compliance, land management, or community education is highly desirable.

Eligibility Criteria

• Possession of a valid open 'C' class driver's license.
• Successful completion of a criminal history check; criminal records will be assessed fairly on an individual basis.
