Overview

Work Redbridge is looking for an Employment Specialist to join its employment support and job brokerage service and help deliver the new Connect to Work programme in Redbridge. This is a voluntary supported employment initiative funded by the UK Government under the Get Britain Working strategy.

The post is offered as a 2-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for an extension if funding continues.

This role is suited to someone who is motivated by making a real difference, supporting vulnerable adults with health conditions, mental health needs and disabilities to move into meaningful work or remain in employment.

Role focus

You will work with a small caseload, providing tailored, person-centred employment support that follows the principles of Individual Placement Support (IPS) or the Supported Employment Quality Framework (SEQF). The position involves helping people identify suitable opportunities, overcome barriers and build a path to sustainable employment.

The council is particularly interested in candidates who have already delivered supported employment in services or co-located teams such as NHS, health, mental health, adult social services, drug and alcohol services, homelessness, domestic abuse, refugee and asylum support, SEND, or leaving care.

Working relationships and impact

The post will contribute to wider goals such as improving economic wellbeing, reducing in-work poverty and lowering reliance on public-sector support. You will collaborate closely with Work Redbridge partners, including council teams, health services, and community and voluntary sector organisations, to identify residents who can benefit from the programme and help them secure lasting work.

Application and interview details

The closing date for applications is two weeks from the date of posting. Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 6 July 2026.

Applicants must complete an online application and upload both a CV and a supporting statement.

Contract information

This is a 2-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension, depending on funding.

Required approach and attributes

You should bring strong motivational skills, excellent communication, and active listening to build trust and rapport with clients. A non-judgemental, dependable and empathetic approach is essential, particularly when working with people who have disability, health or mental health support needs.
