Role Overview
The Dispatch Database Officer, also known as Dispatch Aeronautical Information Officer, will serve in a permanent full-time 24/7 shift work schedule at Mascot, Sydney. The main responsibility involves overseeing and maintaining the Flight Planning Navigation Database and related applications to ensure smooth flight operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and update the Navigation Database and Flight Planning systems continuously.
- Deliver operational support encompassing pre-flight planning, in-flight communication, re-planning, system maintenance, and backup functionalities across Qantas’ domestic and international network.
- Analyze aeronautical data from NOTAMs and AIPs to implement immediate updates to the flight planning database.
- Identify, assess, and enforce flight planning system restrictions while communicating necessary changes to stakeholders.
- Maintain and update aircraft data critical for flight planning accuracy.
- Collaborate with various business units to support activities such as charter flights and new sector configurations.
- Assist in managing disruptions caused by factors like volcanic eruptions and airspace closures by creating temporary routing and sharing vital information with key teams.
- Apply Flight Dispatch and Qantas Fuel policies to help generate optimal flight plans.
- Maintain expertise in aviation regulations, company policies, and procedures; proactively identify error patterns, recurrent problems, and recommend process enhancements with follow-up actions.
- Work on a rotating 7-day roster schedule.
Required Skills & Experience

- Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making under time-sensitive, high-pressure situations.
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to guide, motivate, and support team members in achieving business goals.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact clearly across organizational levels.
- Experience in operational environments relevant to aviation or flight dispatch.
- Understanding of the aviation industry including airport infrastructure, airspace arrangements, and navigation practices.
- Ability to interpret aeronautical information such as NOTAMs and AIP supplements and understand their operational impacts.
