Role overview

Futuro Health is hiring a senior people leader to guide its People & Engagement function across a multi-state, fully remote organization. This position is responsible for connecting workforce strategy, culture, and operational systems so the organization can continue to grow, perform well, and stay true to its mission and values. The role reports to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and is classified as full-time, exempt.

The ideal candidate will bring substantial HR leadership experience, strong emotional intelligence, and the ability to advise executives on nuanced people issues. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who enjoys building practical, scalable people programs in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.

What you'll do

  • Turn organizational priorities into people plans that support execution, growth, and measurable impact.
  • Work with executive leaders to forecast workforce needs, spot risks early, and create action plans that support business goals.
  • Make sure organizational structure, job roles, and capability planning match strategic objectives.
  • Own broad talent practices, including workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, employee development, and retention.
  • Strengthen the internal leadership pipeline through succession planning, development programs, and career path design.
  • Build manager effectiveness in coaching, performance conversations, and day-to-day team leadership.
  • Act as the primary advisor for complex employee relations matters, using discretion, fairness, and sound judgment.
  • Help leaders address performance concerns, difficult personnel situations, and underperformance with clarity and consistency.
  • Drive a strong performance culture built on expectations, feedback, and accountability.
  • Lead core HR operations such as HRIS, compensation, benefits, retirement plans, policies, and compliance.
  • Improve employee experience by making people processes and systems more efficient, scalable, and user-friendly.
  • Manage vendor relationships connected to people operations.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and nonprofit obligations.
  • Reduce organizational risk while keeping processes practical and people-centered.
  • Protect and strengthen culture so the mission and values show up consistently in collaboration, performance, and engagement.
  • Lead engagement efforts, including all-hands planning, and help create connection and belonging across a remote workforce.
  • Partner with leaders to build inclusive, high-performing teams that retain talent over the long term.
  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and coaching to support team effectiveness.

Experience and qualifications

  • 8 to 12+ years of progressive experience in human resources, talent, or people operations.
  • At least 3 to 5 years serving as the lead HR leader for an organization.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or similarly mission-driven organization with roughly 100 to 200 employees preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead people strategy in a multi-state, fully remote environment while maintaining connection and accountability.
  • Strong judgment in handling sensitive employee relations and organizational issues with empathy and discretion.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership development, performance management, and manager capability building.
  • Hands-on experience overseeing HR systems, benefits, retirement plans, compensation, benchmarking, performance management, and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of payroll processes, multi-state taxation, and wage and hour compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build trust across employees, leaders, and outside partners.
  • Ability to use HR data, analytics, and AI-enabled tools to improve effectiveness and decision-making.
  • Comfort working in Microsoft 365 and similar productivity environments.
  • Budget management and resource allocation experience.
  • Ability to operate in a highly collaborative, small-team environment with a hands-on approach.
  • Must live in the Pacific, Mountain, or Central time zones.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is preferred.
