Job summary

This leadership position is accountable for taking landfill methane mitigation initiatives from signed contract all the way through commissioning, steady-state operations, carbon credit creation, and the full life cycle of the asset. The role combines strategic direction with day-to-day operational oversight across delivery planning, field execution, contractor coordination, manufacturing alignment, carbon asset oversight, and long-range operating plans. Success in this position means projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in line with technical, environmental, regulatory, and carbon-market standards.

  • Create and maintain schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and deployment priorities.
  • Put consistent delivery workflows, governance routines, and performance measures in place.
  • Spot project and operating risks early and put mitigation plans in place.
  • Build operating systems that can scale as the portfolio grows and assets mature.
  • Coordinate work across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, commercial, and finance teams.
  • Work with manufacturing and engineering teams to align equipment production, delivery, deployment, and commissioning timelines.
  • Oversee contractors, subcontractors, and service vendors so work is safe, timely, and aligned to project scope.
  • Handle contractor prequalification, performance tracking, and compliance management.
  • Support field setup, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Hire, lead, coach, and develop a strong operations and project delivery team.
  • Set goals, accountability expectations, and performance standards for the organization.
  • Support growth and succession planning through mentoring and team development.
  • Promote a workplace culture built on safety, ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Own operating and project budgets, forecasts, and resource planning.
  • Track financial performance and apply cost controls without compromising safety or quality.
  • Provide regular status, performance, and risk updates to executive leadership.
  • Act as the main operational contact for customers, landfill owners, partners, contractors, and regulators.
  • Champion a strong safety culture across project and operational work.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and regulatory obligations.
  • Create and maintain safety programs, procedures, and training expectations.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to strengthen future safety performance.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, environmental science, business, operations management, or a closely related discipline is required.
  • At least 7 years of progressive leadership experience in operations, project delivery, engineering, construction, energy, environmental services, waste management, or a similar field is needed.
  • Proven experience handling complex projects across multiple sites and managing field operations.
  • Background leading cross-functional teams and working with outside contractors.
  • Strong capability in financial management, project execution, and operational planning.
  • Preferred background in landfill gas, biogas, renewable energy, methane mitigation, carbon markets, or environmental infrastructure.
  • Experience managing field organizations spread across different geographies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of carbon registry methods and MRV processes is preferred.
  • International project exposure is preferred.
  • PMP, PE, Lean, Six Sigma, or comparable certifications are preferred.
  • Strong program and project management abilities.
  • Excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Solid business planning and financial understanding.
  • Ability to juggle several priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Analytical thinking, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence across different teams and functions.
