About the Role
Emergence is seeking its inaugural dedicated IT leader to establish and lead the IT function across its holding company and portfolio of companies. This critical position entails creating efficient IT systems that leverage shared capabilities while respecting the individual strengths of each company within the portfolio. You will collaborate closely with a fractional senior IT/security advisor responsible for architecture and a managed service provider handling daily IT operations. This role is strategic rather than hands-on for every company’s IT.
Responsibilities
- Lead the IT integration workstream for acquisitions, including inventorying technology stacks, mapping access rights, configuring accounts and devices, and integrating systems into Emergence’s infrastructure.
- Develop and implement a Day 1 to 100 integration playbook to standardize acquisition IT onboarding, conducting approximately three integrations quarterly.
- Establish and manage portfolio-wide identity and access protocols, ensuring comprehensive joiner/mover/leaver processes and secure offboarding.
- Oversee the identity platform post selection and rollout, based on ongoing portfolio audits.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all tools, accounts, administrative credentials, licenses, and renewal schedules critical for security and consolidation decisions.
- Manage relationships and service level agreements with managed service providers serving portfolio companies.
- Administer vendor contracts, manage renewals, consolidate licenses, and negotiate volume pricing at the portfolio level.
- Build backend integrations for the company’s cross-portfolio data platform.
Candidate Profile
- 6 to 10 years of practical experience in IT operations, systems administration, or MSP/consulting environments, including at least 3 years in an IT leadership capacity.
- Proven experience managing IT across multiple businesses or units simultaneously, transcending single-company environments.
- Demonstrated success leading IT efforts during acquisition processes, including due diligence, initial readiness, and post-close systems rationalization.
- In-depth knowledge of balancing centralized and decentralized IT approaches with a strong advocacy for effective practices.
- Expertise in identity and access management tools such as Okta, Entra, or JumpCloud, including single sign-on, provisioning, and lifecycle workflows.
- Ability to analyze and document IT environments starting from minimal existing documentation.
- Strong vendor management skills, including contract negotiation, license renewal, SLA monitoring, and license consolidation.
- Capacity to create IT operational frameworks and playbooks from scratch rather than merely follow existing ones.
- Exceptional stakeholder management abilities, capable of engaging professionally at all organizational levels.
Additional Advantages
- Previous experience within private equity portfolios or holding companies.
- Advanced administrative knowledge in both Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Familiarity with IT compliance requirements in regulated industries like healthcare, finance, or defense.
Compensation and Location
Emergence offers a competitive salary between 140000 and 175000 USD annually plus a performance-related bonus and comprehensive benefits. Placement within this range will be determined by your experience, skills, qualifications, and geographic location within the United States. This role is remote for U.S.-based candidates.
