Director of Global Member Development

Overview

As the Director of Global Member Development at Sigma Theta Tau International, you will lead the design and management of the organization's global member experience portfolio. Your role is pivotal in shaping how nursing professionals engage with the society, develop in their careers, gain recognition, volunteer, and participate in professional enrichment throughout their memberships.

Role and Responsibilities

You will architect an integrated system combining awards, recognition, mentoring, volunteer pathways, events, and digital engagement to form a cohesive member journey. Unlike managing separate programs, you will ensure all elements operate in harmony, fostering leadership growth, a sense of belonging, and lifelong member value. Working closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams, you will align strategies to be scalable and relevant to member needs across the globe. Regular collaboration with Learning & Development, Nursing Strategy & Leadership, Membership, and volunteer governance units is essential.

A typical week involves monitoring ongoing initiatives to detect patterns or issues, analyzing member data and feedback to evaluate the overall effectiveness of member engagement programs, and making data-driven strategic decisions. You will also engage directly with members to understand their lived experiences, translating insights into actionable improvements.

Candidate Profile

• Seven or more years of progressive experience in member, volunteer, or professional development engagement, with a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; a master's degree and background in healthcare associations is advantageous.
• Proven ability to execute strategic initiatives that boost participation, retention, and constituent value, and capacity to lead cross-departmental collaborations.
• Experience managing multiple aspects of member experience such as recognition programs, mentoring, and digital communities, with strong systems-thinking skills.
• Proficiency in utilizing data and metrics for program assessment and strategic planning, alongside strong communication capabilities across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Leadership experience managing teams, including coaching and performance oversight, capable of guiding staff through uncertain or evolving environments.
• Comfort working in developing environments requiring structure creation and iterative portfolio development.
• Additional experience with CRM, engagement platforms, survey tools, budget management, or revenue-generating program oversight is beneficial.

Additional Information

• This is a remote role for U.S.-based professionals with occasional business travel (7-10 times a year) for meetings, conferences, and training.
• The salary range offered is $75,000 to $85,000 per year, aligned with equity and budget considerations.
