Data Scientist - TikTok PGC Sports

About the Role

As a Data Scientist for TikTok's Professionally Generated Content (PGC) Sports division, you will perform comprehensive analysis of user behavior, product dynamics, and the content ecosystem to extract actionable insights that drive business growth. This role involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Product Management, R&D, and Machine Learning Engineering to enhance user experience and fuel TikTok's expansion across various regions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end data analyses relating to content and product features, identifying patterns in supply and demand, user actions, and creator environments to discover growth areas and make a business impact.
• Design and maintain core metric frameworks and data systems to streamline data-driven decision processes.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, Algorithm, and Engineering teams to enhance recommendation algorithms, improve content distribution, optimize user experience, and execute strategic initiatives.
• Plan and evaluate A/B experiments and causal inference analyses; conduct assessments of product features, operational strategies, metric anomaly detection, and root cause investigations.
• Test hypotheses and pinpoint product growth opportunities using analytical approaches, experiments, and other scientific methods to guide improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields.
• At least 3 years of experience in data analysis or data science roles.
• Strong statistical knowledge including causal inference and expertise in A/B testing methodologies.
• Proficiency in SQL and advanced skills in Python or R for data processing, modeling, and visualization.
• Hands-on experience with recommendation systems, content distribution, or growth strategies; background in sports or content-related products preferred.
• Excellent analytical skills with strong structured thinking, able to quickly grasp business nuances in the sports sector and translate them into data-driven insights.
• Preferred: Exceptional communication and project management capabilities; experience with international markets or cross-regional collaboration; curiosity, self-motivation, resilience, and an ownership-driven mindset that positively influences teamwork.

Additional Information
