Role Overview

The role of Data Analyst, Business Intelligence is crucial in ensuring that the company's data infrastructure effectively supports leadership and key teams such as Finance, Revenue Operations, and Go-To-Market. This strategic position entails owning and managing reporting layers, including dashboard creation, metric definitions, and self-service BI tools, to foster faster and more confident decision-making.

You will collaborate closely with the Analytics Engineer to convert business inquiries into sustainable data products rather than temporary reports. Your work ensures the organization has clear and trustworthy business intelligence. The role involves integrating AI technologies to enhance productivity and BI accessibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and govern Float’s essential dashboards and BI infrastructure, ensuring quality and relevance while assigning ownership and archiving obsolete content.
  • Collaborate with the Analytics Engineer to translate business needs into data models by drafting specifications, validating results, and aligning on metric definitions before implementation.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate SQL creation, develop self-serve capabilities, scale analysis efforts, and make BI tools accessible to non-technical users, ensuring appropriate oversight.
  • Develop and manage Float’s authoritative metrics library with clear definitions, calculations, and ownership, resolving inconsistencies between teams.
  • Support leadership through preparation for quarterly business reviews, board meetings, and performance reports, providing clean analysis and deep-dive explorations.
  • Build a self-service BI environment with verified dashboards and clear documentation to reduce reliance on the data team across various departments.
  • Identify data model gaps and quality issues, collaborating with the Analytics Engineer to prioritize improvements based on business impact.

Measures of Success

  • Establishment of clear direct responsibility for BI and metric governance, with audited and maintained dashboards and named owners for all key reports.
  • Creation of a trustworthy and organized BI environment integrating AI to enhance capacity beyond existing resources.
  • Enhanced self-service BI adoption reflected by reduced ad-hoc requests and accelerated decision-making by leadership through insightful data interpretations.

Candidate Profile

  • 2 to 4+ years experience in business intelligence or analysis within high-growth fintech or SaaS companies.
  • Proficiency in SQL, including advanced features such as CTEs, window functions, and aggregations, with ability to communicate queries to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong experience managing BI platforms such as Metabase, Looker, Tableau, or Sigma.
  • Ability to understand data lineage and work with dbt models, contributing to dbt projects despite prior dbt experience not being mandatory.
  • Comfortable employing AI tools like large language models for SQL drafting, documentation, and analytical structuring, with awareness of necessary guardrails.
  • Analytical thinker capable of clarifying ambiguous challenges into actionable analytical tasks and independently driving investigations.
  • Excellent written communication skills to effectively relay analytic narratives.
  • Collaborative and proactive work style, maintaining transparency and partnering closely with analytics engineers.
  • Genuine business curiosity beyond data analysis.
  • Experience supporting senior management is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based warehouses such as Snowflake is a plus.
  • Python skills beneficial for automation and analyses beyond SQL.

Work Environment and Benefits

  • Join one of Canada’s fastest-growing fintech companies.
  • Opportunity to have significant impact within a high-autonomy and growth-oriented role.
  • Collaborate with a highly motivated and supportive team.
  • Competitive salary with equity options and benefits.
  • Hybrid work arrangement based in Toronto, with designated office days for collaboration.
  • Catered team lunches three days per week.
  • Dog-friendly workplace.
  • Work in a culture that values trust, high-performance, and meaningful contributions.
