Your Role
As a Data Analyst within the Finance department, you will be an integral part of Stio's Data & Analytics team. Working closely with the Director of Data & Analytics, you will enhance how the organization leverages data across various departments such as Finance, Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Inventory Planning, and B2B. This role spans the full data spectrum, from infrastructure tasks including ingestion, modeling, and transformation, to analysis, business intelligence solution development, and stakeholder engagement.
You will utilize a technology stack including Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Power BI, GitHub, and Python, while employing AI-assisted development tools to collaborate on code. The role requires strong data intuition to identify inaccuracies and the willingness to challenge existing metrics. You will focus on actionable insights, problem-solving with straightforward analyses, and contributing to evolving analytics practices.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with teams such as Product Development, Marketing, DTC, B2B, Finance, Operations, and Inventory Planning to clarify ambiguous business questions into clear, actionable analyses, dashboards, and data products, managing the full lifecycle from scoping through delivery and communication.
- Construct and sustain dbt models that convert raw data into reliable, well-documented datasets, including writing tests and documentation to ensure usability by both humans and AI.
- Create and update dashboard reports and semantic frameworks to support daily business operations.
- Define business metrics and semantics, establishing consensus when disagreements arise among stakeholders.
- Evaluate and strengthen AI-generated SQL, dbt models, and Python scripts by detecting subtle semantic errors beyond standard test validation.
- Investigate data discrepancies that are not apparent in current schemas by engaging with source-system owners and analyzing edge cases, thereby enhancing the company’s business data model.
- Assist in maintaining and evolving Stio's data infrastructure stack comprising Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, GitHub, Power BI, R, and Python.
- Enhance data governance through the creation of practical documentation that benefits the Data & Analytics team and is AI-consumable for future use.
- Continually advance personal skills in data analytics as new tools and methodologies emerge, viewing this as a core job responsibility.
Qualifications
- At least three years of professional experience in roles such as data analyst or analytics engineer.
- Expertise in advanced SQL techniques including CTEs and window functions; adept at handling complex, real-world data and analyzing query performance.
- Hands-on experience with dbt, capable of contributing to models, tests, and documentation within ongoing projects.
- Proficiency with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, or equivalent platforms.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and GitHub during standard workflows.
- Experience developing with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar.
- A well-formed perspective on AI-assisted analytics development, recognizing its strengths and limitations, and applying critical judgment to outputs.
- Proven ability to nurture collaborative relationships with non-technical business stakeholders.
- Confident in presenting analytical findings to leadership through verbal, written, and visual communication.
Preferred Additional Experience
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python and R for data analysis.
- Experience with components of Stio’s data stack including Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, GitHub, Power BI, Python, R, and AI coding tools.
- Knowledge of platforms like NetSuite, Shopify, Google Analytics, Segment, and Klaviyo.
- Background in direct-to-consumer or omni-channel retail, particularly in apparel, footwear, or outdoor sectors.
- Experience working independently or as part of a small data team managing end-to-end analytics responsibilities.
Additional Information
- The position requires sitting for 50% to 75% of the working day.
- Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance plans; company-paid long-term disability; employee assistance programs; a 401k plan with matching contributions; generous paid time off; and employee gear testing perks.
- Compensation ranges from $85,000 to $100,000 annually, dependent on experience and qualifications.
