Company Overview
The Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA), an autonomous entity founded by legislation in 2025, is responsible for regulating, promoting tourism, developing infrastructure, protecting Liberia's cultural heritage, and fostering the creative economy.
Role Summary
This position involves managing efforts to expand Liberia's creative industries, aligning with tourism and cultural initiatives. The role includes overseeing programs supporting sectors such as arts, crafts, music, fashion, and cultural media to drive economic progress. It entails forming partnerships across public and private sectors to encourage creative entrepreneurship and integrating creative content into tourism products. The manager also adapts international best practices suitable for Liberia's unique context.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute a comprehensive national strategy for the creative economy aligned with LNTA’s goals, identifying principal creative sectors such as film, music, design, and crafts, and outlining growth plans.
- Partner with educational and cultural organizations to facilitate skill development via workshops and incubators for creative entrepreneurs. Enhance access to financing, markets, and export avenues through activities such as arts fairs and creative exports promotion.
- Incorporate creative economy elements into tourism marketing by collaborating with LNTA’s Marketing department to highlight local arts and cultural aspects in campaigns, events, and tourism packages. Support cultural festivals and workshops that attract visitors and showcase Liberian creativity.
- Manage grant distribution and technical support schemes for creative startups. Collaborate with NGOs and donors like UNESCO and cultural funds to channel resources toward creative sectors.
- Conduct research and collect data on the economic contributions of creative industries. Develop relevant performance metrics and reports on sector growth, employment, and GDP impact.
- Coordinate with the Director of Cultural Heritage to support artists preserving intangible heritage and work with Legal Affairs on intellectual property matters affecting artists.
- Represent LNTA in regional and international networks and events related to the creative economy to promote ideas exchange and foster partnerships.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in Arts Management, Cultural Studies, Economics, or related discipline; postgraduate qualifications or specialized training in creative industries are advantageous.
- At least seven years of meaningful experience in cultural policy, development of creative industries, or relevant creative business sectors.
- An entrepreneurial approach and a robust network within the arts and culture communities.
- Strong project management capabilities along with excellent skills in engaging stakeholders.
Additional Information
- Reports to the Deputy Director General for Cultural Heritage and collaborates closely with the Marketing & Promotions Directorate.
- Coordinates activities with the Ministry of Commerce, cultural NGOs, and private sector creative groups.
- Performance indicators include growth in registered creative enterprises and employment, number and success of creative economy events, integration of creative elements in tourism marketing, economic impact from creative exports, and capacity-building measures for creative professionals.
