Role Overview
This full-time position is based on-site in Port Harcourt. The Crane Operator will be responsible for maneuvering mobile and stationary cranes to safely transport materials within the plant and construction locations. The operator must adhere strictly to safety protocols and site rules while planning and executing lifting operations, including crane setup, load weight verification, and collaboration with ground staff for precise and secure load placement.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate lifting tasks ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Set up cranes properly before each operation.
- Verify the weight of loads to maintain safe lifting parameters.
- Collaborate with ground personnel for accurate load positioning.
- Conduct pre-use and routine equipment inspections.
- Report any defects or malfunctions promptly.
- Maintain detailed logs for crane usage and maintenance.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, riggers, and team members to support production and material handling activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven skills in managing and planning safe lifting operations.
- Experience with heavy machinery, including various cranes and related tools.
- Proficiency in the use of lifting accessories such as slings, hooks, and rigging equipment.
- Ability to perform inspections and basic maintenance on cranes and lifting gear.
- Completed relevant technical or vocational training in crane or heavy equipment operation.
- Current certification for crane operation compliant with local legislation and industry standards.
- Solid knowledge of safety regulations, load charts, and communication/signaling methods on site.
- Capable of operating in physically strenuous environments while following instructions precisely.
- Prior working experience in industrial, manufacturing, or construction settings is advantageous.
