About First Quantum Minerals and Role Overview

The Coordinator, Dewatering supports the Mining Superintendent by overseeing a skilled shift team accountable for the operation, maintenance, construction, and relocation of dewatering equipment including pit dewatering pumps, dam pontoon pumps, and flocculation/coagulation facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Guarantee statutory regulations and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards are fully observed, with timely reporting of any incidents.
- Supervise maintenance, construction, and monitoring activities to maintain safe and efficient operations that maximize reliability and uptime.
- Manage the operation of mining infrastructure equipment ensuring smooth functionality of the dewatering systems.
- Execute equipment isolation procedures safely and in compliance with supervisory and legal directives.
- Uphold excellent housekeeping standards across work areas.
- Achieve KPIs related to timely maintenance, ZEMA water quality compliance, water buffer levels, and HSE performance.
- Provide thorough, accurate, and documented shift handovers covering KPIs, completed tasks, equipment conditions, and key focus areas.
- Meet daily work goals aligned with company policies and procedures.
- Prioritize tasks effectively, monitor progress, and maintain accountability for outcomes.
- Encourage and motivate both self and team to overcome challenges and reach objectives.
- Assist in planning and layout for new project work.
- Ensure the plant maintains maximum availability at all times.
- Collaborate with other departments to minimize disruptions to plant operations.
- Identify and address safety hazards promptly or report them for corrective action.
- Participate actively in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completed Full Grade 12 certificate.
- Diploma in a Mechanical field is required; a degree is considered an added advantage.
- Membership in the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Background in mine dewatering operations or a related environment.
Specialized Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of pump and piping systems.
- Understanding of environmental compliance standards and water quality management.
- Familiarity with water drainage systems.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices.
