Role Overview
The Category Manager within the Pantry team is responsible for driving continuous improvement in product range, pricing, promotions, and placement. This role involves collaborating with internal teams such as Marketing, Digital, E-Commerce, Operations, Finance, and People to achieve sales growth, profitability, and increased market share.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop category strategies grounded in deep customer and market insights.
- Curate product ranges and fine-tune pricing and promotional plans aligned with category goals.
- Establish strong partnerships with suppliers to optimize the supplier portfolio, driving sales, profits, and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure all products comply with Australian consumer law.
- Achieve financial targets related to sales, profit margins, inventory management, and market share.
- Meet non-financial objectives including team development and gathering feedback from suppliers, team members, and customers.
- Create and implement customer-centric category plans and conduct regular reviews.
- Source innovative products that offer competitive advantages.
- Negotiate terms with suppliers regarding product range, cost of goods, and promotional investments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Online, Replenishment, Customer Insights, and Rewards teams.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated experience as a Category Manager or comparable role within large retail or FMCG sectors.
- Proven ability to design and execute customer-focused category strategies supported by strong commercial analysis.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing capabilities across diverse stakeholders at all business levels.
- Capacity to develop expertise in the relevant product category within Australia.
- Strong passion for product development, innovation, and continuous enhancement.
