Job description
Overview
The Naval Service serves as the principal maritime defense organization responsible for safeguarding and operating Ireland's fleet. We invite applications for direct entry into the Hull Artificer role, specifically for candidates with carpentry expertise. Selected individuals will undergo specialized training designed to equip them with the skills to maintain and operate Irish Naval Service vessels effectively.
Key Duties
- Manage ship operations including maintenance and crewing to ensure full operational readiness.
- Acquire skills to perform Hull Artificer duties at sea, focusing on vessel safety and upkeep.
- Maintain, repair, and uphold the structural integrity of the ship's hull, fittings, and related systems.
- Ensure ships are seaworthy and structurally robust to maintain optimal operational performance in all conditions.
- Engage in emergency protocols such as firefighting and damage control as situations arise.
Eligibility Requirements
- Possess one of the following qualifications or approved national equivalents:
- HETAC Level 7 Bachelor of Science in Craft Technology (Wood) with Business
- National Craft Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery
- National Craft Certificate in Cabinet Making/Wood Manufacturing and Finishing
- National Craft Certificate in Shipwright
- Hold Department of Marine & Natural Resources Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) Certificate of Competency.
- Applicants must be aged between 18 and 39 years and provide age verification during recruitment stages.
- Minimum height requirement of 5 feet 2 inches (157.48 cm), measured as part of selection.
- No visible tattoos above the collar while serving; compliance checked during selection.
- Must meet work permit eligibility requirements, requiring proof of at least five years authorized residence in Ireland.
- Applicants must pass medical, physical, and security clearances conducted throughout the recruitment process.
Position Location
The role is based at the Naval Base located on Haulbowline Island, Cork.
