About the Role
An iconic department store retailer is looking for a confident and commercially driven Beauty Buyer to join their established head office in Portlaoise. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the beauty product category, including cosmetics, skincare, and personal care, within a well-established retail business.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute a commercial buying strategy for the beauty category aligned with company-wide product and merchandising directions.
- Source and select engaging product assortments, set pricing, and manage seasonal launches, planned promotions, and multi-buy campaigns.
- Oversee sales targets, profit margins, stock-turn, and budgeting to optimise commercial results.
- Build and nurture robust supplier partnerships, negotiate terms, and collaborate on joint business plans for optimal value delivery.
- Develop and manage a promotional calendar coordinating with suppliers, marketing, and retail teams.
- Analyse promotional outcomes and provide actionable commercial insights and recommendations to leadership.
- Participate in trade meetings with proposals to enhance sales, margin, and inventory performance.
- Establish merchandising guidelines and planograms to ensure consistent in-store execution of ranges, promotions, and customer messaging.
- Effectively communicate category plans, pricing, and merchandising strategies to retail operations and store teams.
- Regularly visit retail locations to assess category execution, gather feedback, and explore opportunities for improvement.
- Represent the buying function at supplier meetings, trade shows, and relevant industry events as required.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of three years’ experience in buying, category management, or wholesale roles.
- Previous experience in beauty, cosmetics, skincare, personal care, pharmacy, or department store buying is highly advantageous.
- Proven skills in product range development, category planning, supplier management, and commercial negotiation.
- Strong analytical ability with proficiency in interpreting sales, margin, and stock-related data.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with reporting or business intelligence tools.
- Excellent communication skills and capable stakeholder management experience.
- A relevant third-level educational qualification is desirable but not mandatory.
