Role overview
This position is for a backup nanny supporting families across Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, and nearby Washington areas. It is a flexible, on-call childcare role suited to people who enjoy active, creative work with children and prefer a smaller setting over a classroom environment. The employer welcomes applicants with experience as babysitters, daycare staff, nannies, church nursery volunteers, and retired or current teaching professionals. Full-time openings are available in Seattle and the Eastside.
What you will do
- Provide in-home care for children without needing to drive them anywhere.
- Keep the child’s space tidy by handling normal clean-up connected to meals or activities.
- Support families caring for children from infancy through toddlerhood, with the greatest need for children under 2 years old.
- Keep children safe and engaged through hands-on activities that match their age and stage of development.
Schedule and work style
The role is designed for someone with a flexible calendar who can fit work around school, family responsibilities, or another part-time job. You should be available for any 4 or more days per week, with 6 to 8 hour shifts scheduled between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
Compensation and benefits
The pay range is $20 to $25 per hour. The employer also provides paid training and a nanny kit stocked with age-appropriate activities and games to use during assignments. Full-time staff may also receive a medical stipend, paid vacation, paid holidays, student loan repayment matching, or retirement savings matching. Strong feedback can lead to bonuses, contests, gift cards, and extra cash prizes.
About the work environment
Shifts are active and child-focused, and part of the day may be spent outdoors when weather allows. The job includes regular movement and interaction throughout the day.
Requirements
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Hands-on experience with children is required, whether paid or unpaid.
- Infant care experience is mandatory.
- You need dependable transportation and must be willing to travel to multiple homes in the area.
- You should be responsive and communicative with the staffing supervisor.
- You must be able to work in an active setting that includes tidying up after activities.
- You need to be able to lift up to 35 pounds safely.
- You must be able to bend, squat, reach, push, and frequently move from the floor to standing.
- You should be able to respond quickly and calmly in urgent situations.
