Organizational Overview & Role Summary

The Analytics division at Synchrony is focused on enabling strategies that improve customer and partner experiences and drive business optimization by leveraging comprehensive data management and the development of advanced analytics solutions that range from descriptive to prescriptive and utilize state-of-the-art technologies to fuel growth.

The AVP, Analytics Metadata Developer is an individual contributor within the Data Office, tasked with supporting the execution of Synchrony’s metadata management and data cataloging strategies. Reporting to the VP of Metadata Management and Data Sourcing, this role works closely with business and IT leadership, data management process owners, and analytics stakeholders to continuously improve and modernize metadata management capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep abreast of Ab Initio product updates and industry trends to proactively recommend improvements that enhance stakeholder outcomes.
  • Deliver knowledge transfer, coaching, and guidance to team members to ensure consistent application of patterns, standards, and best practices.
  • Assist in evaluating and developing advanced metadata features including support for cloud, AI/ML, semantic metadata, tagging, and data discoverability.
  • Contribute to identifying root causes and resolving data issues related to metadata platforms and processes.
  • Collaborate with data governance, engineering, and analytics teams to maintain metadata quality, ensure lineage completeness, and promote uniform platform adoption.
  • Develop and maintain operational runbooks and support documentation to ensure reliable operations and troubleshooting by teams.
  • Conduct comprehensive functional and non-functional testing, addressing any defects to meet performance, security, and reliability standards.
  • Apply platform modifications such as metadata model updates, configurations, integrations, automation, and workflows following Agile and change management guidelines.
  • Create scalable, clear solution designs for enhancements focusing on simplicity, reusability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Gather, document, and validate enhancement requirements ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and stakeholder needs.
  • Identify and propose improvements that enhance platform usability, reliability, scalability, and ease of maintenance.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the current metadata platform, including its configurations, integrations, and operational workflows.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline; alternatively, at least 11 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience including:
    • At least 4 years of hands-on Ab Initio Metadata Hub development experience, covering technical design, implementation, and ongoing support.
    • 7 years working with Agile methodologies and associated tools.
    • 7 years of relevant data management, governance, or project/program management expertise.
    • Experience working in the financial services sector.
  • Preferred characteristics include strong interpersonal and leadership skills to direct cross-functional teams, promote collaboration, and achieve consensus.
  • Experience with Agile and SAFe Agile frameworks.
  • Proven ability to mentor and coach technical teams.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and leadership capabilities.
  • Knowledge of credit card domain and experience in financial services credit card area is highly desirable.

Work Schedule and Location

Work hours are scheduled from 2 PM to 11 PM IST, including an availability window from 6:00 AM to 11:30 AM Eastern Time for meetings with Indian and U.S. teams. The remainder of the working time can be flexibly arranged. This role benefits from enhanced flexibility, allowing work from home or designated Regional Engagement Hubs including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, or Delhi/NCR. Periodic travel or commuting to Hyderabad or the hubs may be required for business, team meetings, training, or cultural events.
