Position Overview
The role of Paint Shop Automation Maintenance Technician involves maintaining, diagnosing, and enhancing automation systems within the paint shop to maximize equipment uptime, ensure consistent paint quality, and promote safe working conditions. This position covers automation systems in areas such as Pre-Treatment, E-Coat, Primer, Basecoat, Clearcoat, ovens, inspection, material handling, and automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS).
Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC-based systems, industrial robots, and other automation devices specific to paint shop operations.
- Identify electrical, control, sensor, and communication issues and effect timely, safe repairs.
- Conduct structured fault and root cause analyses for recurring malfunctions.
- Assist with minor programming adjustments and troubleshooting for PLC logic, robotic controls, and HMI/SCADA interfaces in line with change protocols.
- Manage system backups, maintain program versions, and update automation documentation.
- Carry out preventive maintenance for automation equipment including conveyors, robots, ovens, elevators, turntables, and ASRS.
- Observe alarms and equipment trends to enable predictive maintenance and support reliability enhancement.
- Assist in commissioning, trials, and validation phases for new automation installations, upgrades, or process adjustments.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts aimed at reducing downtime, optimizing cycle times, and stabilizing paint quality.
- Ensure adherence to machine safety regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, hazardous-area guidelines, OEM standards, and internal environmental health and safety (EHS) policies.
- Support audits related to ISO quality management systems (QMS) and internal safety protocols.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including production, process engineering, quality assurance, and facilities management.
- Keep precise records of breakdowns, maintenance actions, and automation system modifications.
Qualifications
- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent, ideally with specialized education in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- Between 2 to 4 years of practical experience in maintaining automation, preferably within a paint shop or similarly automated manufacturing setting.
- Demonstrated skill in PLC programming and configuring industrial robotics.
- Familiarity with simulation tools applied to automation or robotic operations.
- Preferred certification in industrial automation and/or robotics disciplines.
- Availability to work in shifts and provide on-call support compliant with production demands.
- Strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) use, safety standards, and plant EHS rules.
Skills
- Expertise in PLC control and industrial automation systems

- Understanding of paint shop machinery and operational sequences
