About the Role
Join Nationwide's Property and Casualty division, a Fortune 100 company with nearly $70 billion in annual sales, dedicated to providing exceptional customer service and innovative insurance solutions. Nationwide is seeking associate underwriters who combine analytical skills with a commitment to outstanding client care, focusing on personal lines insurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal personal lines insurance policies within delegated authority.
- Assess risks and make informed underwriting decisions following company guidelines.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with independent agents to facilitate business growth.
- Collaborate with Sales, Claims, and other internal teams to enhance agency success.
- Deliver excellent service balancing quality, efficiency, and production targets.
- Gather and evaluate information from multiple sources to support underwriting analysis.
- Make decisions on lower complexity cases, classifying risks accurately to align pricing and coverage.
- Complete underwriting transactions promptly, aiming for first-time final processing.
- Consult with agents and internal partners, recommending potential development opportunities.
- Participate in team activities, training sessions, and meetings to stay current with practices and policies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preferred: At least two years of insurance-related experience or an undergraduate degree.
- Experience in underwriting is a plus but not mandatory; backgrounds in claims or customer service within insurance are valuable.
- Strong customer service abilities and relationship-building skills.
- Analytical mindset with capacity to evaluate risks and handle competing priorities.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
- Ability to use and learn relevant computer systems and manage both automated and manual tasks proficiently.
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree is preferred.
Training and Schedule
- Comprehensive virtual training program for six weeks, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM EST.
- Post-training work hours align with normal business hours, such as 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
- This is a fully remote position.
Additional Information
- This is an overtime-eligible, non-exempt position with limited travel requirements.
- Reports to a supervisor or manager; no direct reports.
