Job description

Overview

Apollo Hospitals International Limited in Ahmedabad is a leading healthcare facility with world-class services delivered through advanced technologies and multiple Centres of Excellence. As part of the hospital’s engineering team, the Assistant Manager will ensure the continuous and efficient operation of all mechanical engineering systems supporting patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage routine, preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance of all mechanical systems to ensure no interruption in hospital functions.
  • Oversee centralized HVAC systems including Chillers, Air Handling Units (AHUs), Fresh Air Handling Units (FAHUs), cooling towers, pumps, and chilled water distribution networks.
  • Maintain HVAC parameters such as temperature, humidity, air pressure, and indoor air quality in sensitive clinical zones including Operating Theatres, ICUs, labs, and isolation wards.
  • Plan and execute renovation, refurbishment, and engineering modifications with minimal disruption to ongoing hospital services.
  • Supervise installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of new mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Analyze equipment performance and maintenance trends to implement corrective and preventive measures improving reliability and minimizing downtime.
  • Manage relationships with contractors, vendors, and Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) providers ensuring quality, safety standards and timely service delivery.
  • Prepare and monitor engineering budgets, maintenance, and project expenses, focusing on cost control and energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to NABH, JCI, fire safety protocols, statutory regulations, and internal hospital engineering standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including maintenance schedules, equipment histories, calibration logs, and project reports.
  • Coordinate closely with clinical, biomedical, infection control, nursing, housekeeping, and administrative departments to support uninterrupted patient care during engineering works.
  • Supervise engineering staff and outsourced personnel by organizing work schedules, monitoring performance, ensuring technical competence and compliance with safety practices.
  • Promote occupational health and safety by implementing permit-to-work policies, risk assessments, emergency responses, and safety standards.
  • Monitor and optimize utility consumption through energy management initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and HVAC performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying process enhancement opportunities, adopting engineering best practices, and ensuring equipment availability and operational excellence.
