Overview
The Adult Restorative Justice Conferencing (ARJC) team provides services that create a secure and structured setting for victims, offenders, and other involved parties to address the impact of criminal behaviours. These conferences promote constructive dialogue, accountability, offender rehabilitation, and empower victims to express their perspectives. The intent is to facilitate healing, minimize repeat offenses, and foster stronger community bonds by focusing on harm repair and trust restoration.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer top-quality restorative justice services, including conducting interviews and facilitating restorative justice conferences in alignment with the Dispute Resolution Centres Act 1990 and the Dispute Resolution Branch’s policies.
- Operate within a highly confidential and sensitive environment, ensuring impartial guidance to those involved in ARJC proceedings.
- Independently handle an assigned caseload with limited supervision: making informed decisions, managing cases efficiently, and maintaining up-to-date records and databases with accuracy.
- Exercise sound judgment when assessing case suitability for conferencing, evaluating defendants’ acceptance of responsibility, addressing power imbalances, and determining the appropriateness of proposed outcomes.
Skills, Abilities, and Cultural Competence
- Experience related to restorative justice, criminal justice systems, or conflict resolution practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences, including First Nations communities.
- Capability to manage multiple cases concurrently along with administrative duties, such as meticulous recordkeeping and use of various digital tools and databases.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and proactively connect with communities to promote service awareness.
Additional Information
Applications will be valid for a period of 12 months from submission. The role falls under the occupational group of Administration.
