Synopsis
The Takeovers Panel seeks an APS5 Paralegal to join its in-house legal team located in Melbourne. This is a full-time contract role offering a dynamic opportunity to work within a statutory decision-making body overseeing corporate control transactions.
About the Role
The Takeovers Panel serves as a peer review authority regulating corporate control activities in widely held Australian companies. It emphasizes swift and commercial dispute resolution in takeover matters, fostering a competitive and transparent market environment. The successful candidate will gain valuable exposure to mergers and acquisitions, regulatory processes, and interaction with prominent legal and industry professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the management of applications before the Panel, ensuring effective and timely resolution aligned with section 602 of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and procedural fairness.
- Draft various correspondence and documentation related to matters.
- Analyze and summarize relevant information and documentation.
- Offer administrative assistance during Panel proceedings, including maintaining files, contact lists, data rooms, issuing media releases, and aiding legal staff.
- Contribute to legal research and assist in developing policy and guidance under the Panel’s jurisdiction.
- Help maintain liaison with agencies, industry groups, regulators, and other stakeholders connected to the Panel’s work.
- Engage with parties involved in proceedings, including experienced legal practitioners and external stakeholders.
Essential Requirements and Skills
- Currently undertaking or completed legal studies, such as a law degree, or possess prior paralegal experience.
- Availability to work full-time.
- Residency or ability to work onsite in Melbourne, Victoria.
