Role Overview
The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration in Dublin is seeking expressions of interest from appropriately qualified people to join the Appeals Panel created under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. There are five places available on the panel, which will deal with certain decisions made by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland.
Essential Experience
Applicants should be able to show senior-level experience in one or more of the following areas, as relevant to the role:
- legal or compliance work within a regulated profession or industry,
- gambling-related activity,
- consumer affairs,
- the study, treatment or pathology of addiction, especially gambling addiction,
- information and communications technology,
- financial services, including audit and financial forensic work.
Desirable Background
Additional experience that would strengthen an application includes:
- service as a board member,
- experience with quasi-judicial decision-making,
- corporate governance and compliance expertise.
Chairperson Requirement
One member of the Appeals Panel will be appointed as Chairperson. Under the Act, this person must be a practising barrister or practising solicitor. The Chairperson also has specific duties connected with receiving appeals and forming an Appeals Board where required.
Applicants for the Chairperson role must also be able to demonstrate senior-level experience as either a chairperson or a board member.
