Role Overview
ElevenLabs seeks a seasoned AI Safety Engineer to design and implement automated moderation and guardrail mechanisms securing their multimodal platform. Collaborating with ML and full-stack engineers, this role entails building production-grade safety infrastructure from the ground up, including architectural design, deployment, and ongoing monitoring. The role bridges cutting-edge ML research and reliable scalable systems, ensuring robustness and observability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop scalable backend architectures for content moderation, abuse detection, and agent guardrails integrating AI/ML models into live systems.
- Create reliable APIs, data pipelines, and services to support both real-time and batch moderation workflows.
- Establish and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability tools combined with key SLIs, SLOs, and performance benchmarks.
- Collaborate closely with ML engineers to adapt research prototypes to production-ready applications across product platforms.
- Lead critical technical decisions and help shape the vision for scalable, precise platform guardrails in future roadmap development.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 6 years experience in backend software engineering focused on building large-scale production systems.
- Proficient with distributed systems, APIs, data pipeline implementation and Python programming (including asynchronous paradigms and backend frameworks).
- Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP), containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
- Experience in monitoring platforms such as Prometheus and Grafana, demonstrating an observability-focused approach.
- Proven history of delivering products or systems from the ground up with evident impact, particularly involving ML or AI system deployments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in trust & safety, content moderation, or platform integrity engineering roles.
- Familiarity with MLOps including deployment, monitoring, and version control for ML models.
- Knowledge of SQL, data analytics tools, and streaming/event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, Redis).
- Experience with React or contemporary frontend frameworks is advantageous.
Location and Diversity
This is a fully remote position open to applicants globally. Optionally, the candidate may choose to work from any of the company’s offices in London, New York, San Francisco, or Warsaw. ElevenLabs is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, valuing individuals regardless of race, religion, gender, or any protected characteristics.
