Role Overview
This leadership role oversees the entire polymer business division at the Gummidipoondi, Chennai location. The selected professional will own end-to-end operations covering recycling, compounding, production, quality, planning, dispatch, technology, automation, training, plant administration, and business profitability. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer or Managing Director.
The ideal candidate should bring deep, practical experience in plastic recycling, polymer compounding, extrusion-based manufacturing, recycled polymers, process improvement, customer specification management, and circular-economy driven production. This is a hands-on role for a leader who can run a large polymer manufacturing setup while fostering safety, SOP discipline, capability building, and continuous improvement.
Candidates must be willing to relocate close to the Gummidipoondi area.
Business Unit Leadership
- Take full ownership of the polymer division and steer business expansion.
- Lead the production, quality, planning, dispatch, technical services, and plant administration teams.
- Prepare annual business plans, production targets, and growth roadmaps.
- Improve profitability, operating efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Build a performance-focused culture across the division.
- Coach and develop strong technical and production teams.
Production and Operations
- Manage manufacturing operations for PPCP granules, PPHP granules, HDPE granules, ABS granules, HIPS granules, customized polymer compounds, and customer-specific recycled polymer grades.
- Plan and schedule production in line with business requirements.
- Track daily output and ensure stable execution on the shop floor.
- Raise capacity utilization, productivity, and yield.
- Reduce downtime, rejections, and operating costs.
- Manage shifts and improve resource deployment.
Plastic Recycling Operations
- Lead recycling activities for post-consumer and post-industrial plastic waste.
- Improve efficiency in washing, grinding, segregation, sorting, and extrusion.
- Strengthen contamination control and material recovery initiatives.
- Refine recycling processes to improve both quality and profitability.
- Ensure consistent preparation of recycled raw materials.
Compounding and Product Development
- Develop tailored polymer compounds and customer-specific formulations.
- Create grades suitable for automotive, home appliance, consumer durable, industrial component, and packaging applications.
- Enhance polymer properties through formulation improvements.
- Support customer qualification, audits, and technical approval activities.
- Drive new product development through to commercialization.
Raw Material Management
- Apply strong knowledge of PPCP, PPHP, HDPE, ABS, HIPS, engineering plastics, recycled polymer feedstock, polymer blending, additives, and fillers.
- Approve and qualify raw materials.
- Evaluate vendors from a technical standpoint.
- Improve material usage and feedstock planning.
- Support recovery enhancement and cost-effective sourcing.
Quality Management
- Use practical expertise in MFI, tensile strength, impact strength, flexural strength, density, ash content, moisture content, elongation, colour consistency, polymer compatibility, filler loading, and additive performance.
- Ensure products consistently match customer specifications.
- Lead quality improvement actions and corrective measures.
- Handle customer audits and technical qualification reviews.
- Perform root cause analysis and reduce complaints and rejections.
Dispatch, Inventory, and Customer Commitments
- Ensure production and dispatch timelines are met reliably.
- Coordinate with sales, planning, stores, logistics, and quality teams.
- Maintain healthy inventory levels.
- Monitor order fulfilment and customer service performance.
- Deliver strong OTIF performance.
Plant Administration and Team Leadership
- Oversee routine plant administration.
- Work closely with maintenance, HR, stores, EHS, security, and administration teams.
- Promote workforce discipline and overall operational effectiveness.
- Drive accountability at every level.
- Maintain positive industrial relations and workforce engagement.
SOPs, Training, and Skill Development
- Build and sustain an SOP-led manufacturing culture.
- Develop and review production, quality, maintenance, safety, and operational work instructions.
- Run periodic employee training sessions.
- Create skill matrices and competency assessment systems.
- Support a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
- Maintain training documentation and compliance records.
MIS and Reporting
- Prepare daily production reports, weekly reviews, monthly MIS, management review reports, and productivity dashboards.
- Track production performance, OEE, yield, rejection rate, downtime, energy usage, material recovery, conversion cost, quality performance, and dispatch performance.
- Present regular performance reviews to leadership.
Automation, PLC, SCADA, and Industry 4.0
- Bring exposure to PLC systems, SCADA systems, industrial automation, IoT-enabled monitoring, live production dashboards, Industry 4.0 tools, and AI-based manufacturing systems.
- Lead automation initiatives across the polymer division.
- Improve process visibility and monitoring.
- Support predictive maintenance and smart manufacturing efforts.
- Collaborate with maintenance and automation teams to raise plant performance.
Maintenance and Reliability
- Partner with maintenance teams to maximize uptime.
- Support preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, breakdown analysis, and critical spare planning.
- Improve OEE and equipment reliability.

Terms and Conditions
