About the Role
The European Union Delegation to Nigeria is seeking to appoint an Accounts Clerk under a permanent employment contract, contingent on budget availability and operational needs. This position is classified as Local Agent Job Profile of Group III, reporting to the Head of the Administration Section. The incumbent will join a team of 21 members and may occasionally work beyond standard hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage communication with the Delegation's bank and oversee its bank accounts.
- Input invoices into the Delegation’s accounting system and maintain accurate financial records.
- Conduct accounting transactions and monitor pending and incomplete transactions.
- Ensure adherence to financial, budgetary, and contractual regulations, procedures, and timelines.
- Track usage of commitment and payment credits.
- Support the preparation of reports for the Headquarters.
- Assist with the planning, finalization, and monitoring of the annual budget.
- Contribute to procurement processes as needed.
- Develop and improve accounting tools relevant to the role.
- Review and verify budget execution in compliance with financial rules.
- Help draft budgetary documents and reporting materials.
- Provide information and participate in presentations related to financial and budgetary procedures.
- Enter travel invoices in the MIPS+ system.
- Respond to Ex-Post Control inquiries and manage Exception/Non-Compliance Notes responsibly.
- Handle queries from suppliers and contractors regarding payments and legal entity and bank account details.
- Process LEF/BAF entries of third parties in the SUMMA Business Partners workflow.
- Serve as a backup to the Accountant or undertake tasks delegated by the section coordinator.
Candidate Profile and Eligibility
- Possess a secondary education diploma.
- Have extensive knowledge of accounting, finance, and clerical procedures.
- Minimum of three years relevant professional experience in accounting, financial auditing, budgeting, or similar roles following required qualifications.
- Fluency in English at C2 level, both written and spoken.
- Proficient in computer skills, particularly MS Office.
- Legal right to reside and work in Nigeria.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
- Certified Chartered Accountant designation.
- Experience within diplomatic missions, development agencies, or multicultural international environments.
- Familiarity with EU policies and operational procedures.
- Working knowledge of French and other European languages.
- Experience using SUMMA accounting software.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary will be determined based on verified relevant professional experience. It is denominated in Euros but compensated in Nigerian Naira according to the InforEuro monthly exchange rate. A competitive benefits package is provided, including personal leave days, public holidays, health insurance, and a retirement savings scheme, contingent on specific conditions.
